In our last blog, we explored two super simple ways of using AI chatbots like Bing and GPT-4 to ease teachers’ burden. We first discussed creating explanations and analogies for practically any concept in under minutes – whether it’s to explain photosynthesis to middle schoolers or complex algebra to high schoolers. We then explored how teachers could use these chatbots to create quick tests and pop quizzes.
Now, let’s explore how else AI chatbots can be used to elevate the teaching process.
Every child learns differently – at their own pace – and using different methods. What works for Samantha might not work for Joe. And since teachers address at least 20-30 students in a single classroom in one go, it’s not easy to keep up with each student’s progress; let alone incorporating their learning style into the general teaching process.
Teachers usually have to spend one-on-one time with each student to understand what’s missing, how they’ve been keeping up with the lessons, and what topics they are confused about. Even then, the responses aren’t always helpful. Clearly, filling these gaps can be awfully tough. Of course schools have started rolling out feedback forms but they can only help so much.
This is where AI chatbots can offer a helping hand and the method is fairly simple. Teachers first administer 1-minute tests – At either the end of a section of work or a lecture period, students are allotted 60 seconds to anonymously jot down their responses on paper regarding an aspect of that day's class session. Such tests can be done for any subject. Teachers can then feed the responses from these tests to an AI chatbot and ask it to identify gaps in the students’ understanding levels.
Letting an AI chatbot run this assessment not only helps teachers draw out key insights but also saves them so much time. A process that could take a human at least 4-5 hours would ideally take the chatbot mere minutes.
Building on our last method, teachers could take it to the next level and use AI chatbots to personalize lessons and take-home resources. Because, why not?
Creating personalized learning plans is an essential part of effective teaching, but it can be a time-consuming process. AI chatbots can help teachers create personalized learning plans for each student by analyzing their performance on tests and assignments as well as keeping their individual strengths and weaknesses in consideration.
Here's how it could work:
By automating this process, AI chatbots can help teachers create more effective personalized learning plans without adding additional work to their already busy schedules. They can also help students achieve better academic outcomes by providing them with targeted support and resources.
